THE STONES -  I have a friend that likes to say that rocks have the answer to everything.   I may not be completely convinced of that, but there is a lot of wisdom in the stones.  In this set of essays, I am going to delve into the symbology and metaphysics of the stones.  It is important to note that this is based on both research into other's work and my own experience.  Like most guides, use this as a starting point.  Your own instincts and preferences are always your best guide.  This information should not be taken as medical or psychological advice.  If you appreciate my efforts, you can support me by clicking on  By Me a Coffee and leaving me a tip.

Some of the sources I use for information on stones are:
The Book of Stones by Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian
The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall
Internet google searches for the stone
   The sites I usually use are: thecrystalcouncil.com, gia.edu, tinyrituals.com, and thespruce.com.

BLOODSTONE

One of the birthstones for March is bloodstone, and I have to admit that it's on of my favorite stones to work with.  Even though bloodstone looks like a jasper, it is actually classified as a Chacedony with a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7.  the green in this stone comes from Chlorite and Pyroxene.  The red flecks come from iron oxide.

Like the month of March, bloodstone is a stone of duality and of transforming from one state to another.  As a green stone, it is a stone of earth, wealth, and luck.  As a stone associated with earth and nature, it is considered a grounding stone that is used to purify energetic fields, dispel negative influences and help bring balance.  Many have used this stone to encourage grounded self-worth and self assurance.  The flecks of red signify blood and heart.  It is a symbol of heroic sacrifice and selflessness for the common good.  It is a good stone for courage, endurance, and strength.  My bloodstone often has flecks of gold as well, which to me speaks o higher purpose.

This truly is a stone of balancing and integrating duality.  Abundance and sacrifice.  Life and death cycle.  Earth and spirit.  Practical and creative.  When I work with this special gem, I find it soothing.  Every part of my being relaxes into focused alignment.  While bloodstone never stays with me, I do act as a traveling companion, taking it to where it needs to be.  The stone and I work together to create a piece of jewelry with rustic beauty and subtle energy.
