Even though it is sometimes classed as a jasper, unikite is a metamorphic, or altered granite that contains pink orthoclase, green feldspar, and quartz.  This beautiful gem was first found and identified in the Unaka Mountains of North Carolina in the United States.  Unikite is also found in New Jersey, Virginia, Tennessee, and as a wash around the Great Lakes.  In other parts of the world, unikite is found in Brazil, South Africa, China, Zimbabwe, and Switzerland.

This is a favorite gem for fine jewelry.  It is also used as a decorative element for buildings and carvings.

Unikite is most often considered to be a stone of the heart and the heart chakra.  It has a tendency to promote emotional balance and stabilize the emotional swings.  It gently heals grief and deep emotional wounds.  It is a stone that may help release stagnant emotions and help you find inner peace.  As a heart stone, it helps to strengthen harmonious relationships.  It is a gentle stone of understanding.
