The Shiva Lingam stone is a shaped stone from the quartz family.  This special stone is gathered in its rough form from the Narmada River in western India.  the villagers then shape them into the classic Shiva Lingam stone.  The Shiva Lingam stones are created for spiritual practices that honor the Lord Shiva.

The Narmada River is one of the seven sacred sites of India which gives the stones collected from the river special significance.  They have been used for thousands of years in the Hindu temples.  Even the name of the stone is ancient, being derived from the Sanskrit word for sign or symbol, Shiva, and the word for cosmic egg, Lingam.  It is believed to be a blending of both the divine masculine and the divine feminine in the cosmic egg.  In Hindu cosmology, all physical reality of space and time is born from the Cosmic Egg.
